LOUISE MCCARTHY Theatre Arts BA NIDA

Please refer to my full CV HERE for other work and details thereof.

I began my career designing both sets and costumes in the field of live theatre.  My work now is predominantly as a costume designer for film and television drama.  I appreciate working in this highly collaborative and readily accessible medium.

I still love returning to theatre, working with space in the abstract form of a set design, or finding the subtleties of a character’s costume, drawn from the rehearsal room.

My most recent work as a costume designer includes the feature film STORM BOY and all five seasons of THE DOCTOR BLAKE MYSTERIES.   Previous TV Drama includes Seasons One and Three of  NOWHERE BOYS  and the establishing season of OFFSPRING.  Earlier TV drama includes  KICK for SBS, DEAD GORGEOUS and SHORT CUTS for Burberry Productions.  Previous Costumes for film include BLESSED, THE LAST DANCE, SERENADES, THE FOREST, ROAD TO NHILL, LIFE and HARRY’S WAR.

Costumes for documentary drama include JAMES CAMERON’S DEEP SEA CHALLENGE, AUSTRALIA ON TRIAL and POZIERES.

I have designed Costumes for many theatre companies including NGANGWARRA HEART for Black Arm Band,  TRIBES, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and CRUEL AND TENDER for Melbourne Theatre Company.  Costumes for dance include CAN WE AFFORD THIS for DV8, DISAGREEABLE OBJECT for Chunky Move and ABSOLUTE PEARL for Strange Fruit.

My most recent combined set and costume designs include NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH for the State Theatre Company of South Australia and ANGELA’s KITCHEN for the Griffin Theatre Company which toured to Malta in early 2017.   Past set and Costume designs include VX18504 for Meryl Tankard Company.
